While I have been sitting on the beach this weekend I have enjoyed seeing the variety of reading material people have in their hands. What a fabulous place to observe reading and oral language. 

Families gather on the beach with reading, talking and listening playing a central role in their day.

Here is a literacy calendar with activities to do with your child during the month of August. Each activity can be made slightly easier or more difficult by increasing or decreasing the amount of independent reading and writing expected.
