As teachers we first and foremost believe in a love of learning and literature. We value our students as enthusiastic and knowledgeable learners, who play an active role in our classroom and society. As teachers we create authentic learning experiences and guide children to be engaged and active in the process. By providing direct explicit instruction, we create carefully scaffolded opportunities where students take risks. We believe in using qualitative and quantitative assessments to inform our practice and guide in the differentiation of instruction. We celebrate student growth and success, while supporting challenges. As practices change, we collaborate with our colleagues to evaluate our current practices with new research and take risks ourselves.
